Isn't it really difficult to not get personal on blogs?! They're so public and so convenient to write in. I guess I'll have to say what the eff on this one despite a promise to myself. I personally don't like complaining or making excuses so I'll keep this one relatively short (though I never mind listening or being a shoulder to lean on for a good friend--weird, right?). Bob Dylan DOES NOT sing this song. By listening, we can't deny that Gerry Rafferty's voice and Stealers Wheel's musical style is influenced by and draws some similarities to that of the great singer/songwriter. For some reason I woke up this morning wanting to create awareness about the fact that "Stuck In The Middle" belongs to Stealers Wheel (strange, I know). I think this tune has been considered strong since its release in 1973 but was popularized yet again when it was featured on the soundtrack of Quentin Tarantino's debut film, Reservoir Dogs.
The reason I like this tune because I think it's one of the funniest songs of all time. When I say funny, I don't mean it in the laugh out loud sense. Every time I hear "Stuck In The Middle" I think of how funny life and the circumstances and situations that come with it can be. I have a deep appreciation for the song because it illustrates the many states of being "stuck in the middle"--whether it's good, bad, or in between, I always seem to find myself there.
Old school R&B makes me just wanna groove. It doesn't get much better than that in my book (look at those outfits).
Thanks to my best buddy, I was able to recover songs from my old iPod (and his computer) to put on my new hard drive. I was pleased to come across the All That You Can't Leave Behind album. Now, it's common knowledge that U2 is one of the greatest bands of all time (if not the best) and with that of course comes excellent albums such as: Achtung Baby, Joshua Tree, Rattle and Hum, and War. The reason All That You Can't Leave Behind stands out to me is because the album came out when I became old enough to go to concerts "on my own". I enjoyed the Elevation Tour so much that I sprung for $100 plus tickets twice (the Oakland and San Jose shows)--that's a lot for a broke college freshman I think. I really feel the album gets overshadowed and overlooked compared to U2's other great ones--this will change in time and ATYCLB will jump to classic status. I really like all the songs on this and it's very difficult for me to pick a "favorite" (sort of like asking parents who their favorite kid is...wait, let me take that back). Like with your kids, I guess it changes with one's mood and what's going on in a person's life. If you asked me right now and I had to answer, I'd say that "Kite" is running at 1A.

Did you know that Prince wrote "Nothing Compares 2 U"? That just proves how damn talented he is. It's the ultimate song for someone going through a breakup or rocky relationship--without a doubt. As great as Prince is, I think it's important to give credit where it's due--Sinead rocked this one to its full potential. No one could tell the story and make you feel the pain more effectively than Sinead was able to. You can't say that you don't feel this song (especially after a few glasses of your favorite red wine). It truly is a great tune. I closing, I dare any of you to name 10 women in their prime who looked better with a shaved head.
Has anyone heard John Legend's rendition of "Selfish"? It's fabulous! This is just a fabulous song--I'm sure a lot of folks can relate. Unfortunately, Slum Village has been unable to match the success of this classic. Remember the video? One word describes the Farnsworth Bentley reference and appearance: FABULOUS!

I can't really think of another song that inspires me to clean up real nice and have a damn good time. Everything about it just exudes both fun and sexiness. If this song doesn't motivate you to have a good time and make you want to get up and dance, then I suggest therapy (if you're not already in it).

Thank goodness that in the midst of Friday's sweltering heat, a neighborhood liquor store had the presence of mind to carry cappuccino It's Its! Once I had that local ice cream sandwich in hand, I felt I could do anything.
I had the pleasure of enjoying her live last night. The Bay Area native is fabulous. Beautiful voice, beautiful personality, beautiful woman. I was especially glad she sang "Catch 22"...that song has always hit close to home.
